As a bit of history, the Saint Olaf Lutheran Church Foundation was established in 1974.  Since that time, the members of the board have worked diligently to fulfill the Foundation’s Mission “The St. Olaf Lutheran Church Foundation exists to manage benevolent giving and to nourish Christian growth and outreach.”  The success in fulfilling this mission is based on the benevolence of those who have and continue to generously contribute to the foundation, since its inception, and the dedication of those who have served on the board of directors.

The Foundation continues to nourish Christian growth and outreach through these areas:

• Support of Christian Education- In this area we seek to promote, encourage and aid, charitable, literacy, educational and benevolent projects and/or work which benefits the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
• Support of Spiritual Growth- Here scholarships are supported at Luther Seminary and Wartburg Seminary for students pursuing a career in ministry.  Scholarships are also awarded to undergraduates who are members of St. Olaf Lutheran Church.  Students must apply for these scholarships annually; but are awarded to students attending both Lutheran and non-Lutheran colleges.  For academic year 2009/2010 XX scholarships were awarded to qualifying students.
• Capital Improvements- Examples of recent capital improvements include the Sunday School Technology Center, improving facility access for all, adding air conditioning for the sanctuary and the acquisition of property adjacent to the Church.
• Start-up Enterprises- Support for new endeavors in Christian ministry and community enrichment, such as the start-up of a girl’s school in Tanzania and refurbishment of space at the local YWCA.
• Benevolence- Support and aid for projects in Fort Dodge, the surrounding area, the church-at-large and throughout the world.  Examples of support in this area include: the Giving Tree (Christmas gifts to the children of inmates), the missionaries going to Nicaragua, haircuts for  under privileged children, and the Domestic/Sexual Assault and Outreach program, just to name a few.

Proceeds from the endowment will not be spent on:

• Ongoing expense of St. Olaf Lutheran Church
• Regular maintenance projects of St. Olaf Lutheran Church
• Gifts to individuals
