"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God..."

The Word is the foundation of everything.  God speaks and entire universes are created.  God commands and the world is populated with every form of life.  God breathes and we are formed, a part of creation yet different in that we are made in His image.  Finally God promises and His promise, His Word of love surrounds us in our troubles, upholds us in our weakness, forgives us in our sinfulness, and gives us eternal life.

God is so intent on this promise that he sends his Son, the Word made flesh, to sacrifice his life for us and defeat the powers of sin, death and the devil.   This is the truth that forms the backbone of our lives.  We at Saint Olaf gather around that Word and share in His promise of unconditional love.
